"A man's steps are established by the Lord...."
- Psalm 37:23a (Holman Christian Standard)
Coaches spend hours working with their athletes developing proper footwork. We realize that any skill, regardless of how simple or obvious it seems, has to be taught and practiced on a consistent basis. Wise coaches know that teaching proper footwork can be the difference between winning and losing. Having your athletes practice their footwork is an important part of developing them into complete players. Do they still make mistakes, sure they do, it's part of playing the game! Typically however, the athletes that are able to move effectively on the field or court experience greater success.
Footwork is important in our Christian walk as well. God plans and arranges the steps of those who live in fellowship with Him. He is always there to lift us up when we're striving to be obedient to Him. Does this make us immune from mistakes and hardship? Of course not! That's part of life. What it does mean is that God will never let us be consumed by our difficulties. He holds us in His hand. All too often we get caught up in our own fancy footwork rather than walking the pathway God has laid out. It's up to us to learn the footwork techniques the Master Coach is teaching and to practice them on a consistent basis. The reward is worth the effort!
Heavenly Father, help me to walk in Your footsteps. Take away the pride that makes me want to admire my own footwork. Teach me that Your path is better than my path. AMEN.
